Hi All,

I'm racing to finish a few shoots in LR so don't have the time to play around experimenting with stuff for the next few nights at least.

Does anyone know the effect of creating a temporary user preset in the Develop module, and later deleting or overwriting it? I'm using LR 1.1

Say I have a good setting for Presence, Noise Reduction and Sharpening for a batch of shots in a shoot, except I need to review them one by one, so have set up a preset to apply just those settings selectively (I've synced what needs to be synced already) - and I call it Temp 1, which is applied to a number of images as I move along.

Let's say I work on a different set of pics tomorrow night and find another temporary setting that I want to apply to a bunch of images - and overwrite Temp 1 with the new 'temporary' settings I wish to apply.

If I later go back to the first batch of images, which have been edited and clearly show 'Temp 1' in the History:

..can someone tell me if the Temp 1 will be the actual settings applied that happen to have had the Preset name Temp 1 at the time, or does the database reference the existing/current Temp 1?

Similarly if I was to delete Temp 1 next week, would the History of those images still be intact with the actual Preset changes as applied to each image at the time?

Thanks in advance, I'll have a play when I find some time but not soon enough!

No one at all??

Guess I'll have to play around myself when time allows. The 'next few nights' was optimistic...won't be for a few weeks, so I'll have to keep my temp presets just in case things go awol.

Hey! I've only been using LR for about 3 weeks, but I love it. I would think that if you create a user preset in the develop module, and then remove it, all the images that have that preset applied would "lose it". I wonder why you would delete it after creating it?

I created one with a temporary name. It seems that Presets can't be renamed.

Hmmm... I just made a preset in the develop module - saved it in the user presets, and then renamed it.

So I don't know what I was getting up to if I missed the simple way of renaming by clicking on the Preset name (doh!).

The Preset gets renamed and applying it to new images uses the new name, as expected, but old images retain the old name, and the name change does not affect the history step of that image using the old name. Re-applying the Preset at that step in the history will apply the new name, but left untouched it keeps the old Preset name and the changes as applied by that Preset. I guess this is the advantage of a database-based application. Happy days.
