OK - here are pictures of my bag. The 50 1.8 is the only item in the main compartment that I cannot get to without removing something. And since I hardley use the 50 anymore, I am not too worried. The bag is snug, but the items are not jammed into each other and I can easily pul them out - all from the slung position. The flap easily zips up and the lenses do not press against the flap. Flash is in its case. In the compartment with the hoods, there are 3 hoods there, inside of each other. There are some other supplies that you cannot see inside of the hoods - like a rocket blower and other little things. The front pocket has 2 GND filters plus the adapter and holder.

You would probably be better off seeing the shots at the lowepro web site. That way you can see several different angles, you can compare the 3 models, and you can read the specific dimensions. The point of my post was just to show how much stuff it will easily fit.

Doesn't the 70-200, 100-400 and the XTi rub against eachother when you close it all up and start carrying it?

I actually can fit my 5D with 100-400 mounted in the SS200 sideways.

The other day I had the 5D with 70-200 f4 IS mounted along with the 35L, 135L, 17-40L, 1.4xTC and 580EX packed in the SS 200.

I agree...it holds surprising amounts of gear!

With the 300 Slingshot, I can also take lunch and a half litre bottle of water (about 1/2 US quart).;)

The 2 lenses don't touch - or very lightly if they do. The 100-400 and xt do touch, but I place the attached protective cloth in between.

As far as lunch and water, I don't think I could do that. I definitly wouldn't trust water in any part of the bag. And lunch would just get crushed. I will just brown bag it if I need lunch.

Have you worn this lens commbination for a 2+ hour hike? While I have the SS200 and think its a great bag for travelling light, the one strap design also makes it rather uncomfortable when loading it up. For mid or longer length telephotos I always carry a backpack; even a heavy backpack is preferrable. Usually when I take the SS200 its just a 1D mkII with 24-70f2.8 and 100 f2.8 macro.

Not a hike, but I have worn it for several hours at a time.

Hey, great post.

I just bought a 40D and 17-55 f/2.8 - no tele zoom yet - just starting out. I was looking at the Slingshot lines, and wanted to know if this bag is big enough to pack a lunch into. Do you have any pictures of the top pouch packed with some goods?

The 3rd picture shows the top pouch with some lens hoods and other things. BTW, when I bought my 40d, I replaced this with the 300. Yes, I think the top pouch could hold a small lunch - as long as you don't need it for anything else.

SS 200 with two bodies, 4 lenses, including a 100-400, 17-55, 10-22 and 50, plus 580EX, macro tubes, 1.4X tC and other stuff....

Does the SS 200 hold the 5D with 70-200 f4 mounted the "right way"? You know the easy access way? I will buy the bag, if it does.

According to Lowepros specs, the SS200 is 8.7W X 5.9D X 11.8H inches and the 700x2 f4 IS is 10 in. long on my XT. So even if the 70-200 isn't mounted, it still wouldn't fit since the lens alone is at least 7 in. long. and the depth is only 5.9?

I admire the amount of gear, you have packed in this bag, but don't you miss the safer lay out? I guess I could have the camera on the side, but I would prefer having it fit like Lowepro has it in the pictures.

Stefan A, you have the 70-200 lens standing in the first picture. Is it hard to close the bag?

The "safer" layout would severely limit my freedom to carry what I want and use it how I want. I don't want to be faffing about removing/swapping lenses just to fit the kit into the "safe" format. My 100-400 is my most used lens and if I had to keep removing it to pack my stuff away I'd be seriously ticked off. Apart from the time wasting and aggravation of fidding about there is also the dust issue.

I have used my layout for maybe 9 months now and never once had a problem with stuff falling out or anything like that.

I may as well include the link to my short video showing the ease of access to my camera with this layout. The lens in the video is a 70-200 f/2.8, which is basically the same size as the 100-400....

Good to know, I'm thinking about getting the Fastpack 350 for everything and the Slingshot 200 for selected stuff.
