I just bought a Sumpak 5000AF flash for my Canon 10D and I can figure this thing out. I'm not even sure if this flash is totally compatible with my Canon 10D... Did I make a mistake and I should add an other $100 bucks and get a Canon 550? :(

I have an ancient (about 1987) Sunpak auto 36DX thyristor that works perfectly w/ the 10D. So long as it is TTL you should be ok. I haven't tried it on the EOS 50E, but don't see why it shouldn't work, after all the 10D is at least 3 years newer!

Bottom line...I don't see why it isn't. Make sure the batteries are good and test it to make sure it will fire. That is dry fire with the test button, secure it on the 10D and have a go again. There is the chance it could be a dud flash...

Hi Canuck, Thanks for your reply. Acually I solved my problem sending back my Sunpak and I just bought a Canon 550EX. The difference is huge and everything is syncronized and work simply well. After all, Sunpak works, but there are some inportant features like flash compensation that does not work with my 10D and it never worked on "P" mode. Canon 550EC is more money but I get a lot more performance ot of it. Regards, Oswaldo.

Cool, glad u got it sorted. I had forgoteen about FEC, and other cool buts. I wasn't sure if you were leaning toward keeping the SunPak or not. I guess it proves again, when in doubt, buy Canon.
