Has anyone sold photos of auto racing to the owners/drivers of the cars? I was thinking of taking pictures at an autocross event and then trying to sell the pictures (prints) to the car owners. I'm having trouble on how I'd market this. I don't think the officials at the event want me wandering around putting business cards on cars... Also, does anyone know of a site I can use to post the proofs and where someone could then order and pay? I'm looking for a turn-key e-commerce solution as well.

Thanks in advance.

Zenfolio will have a turn key solution out soon for selling prints for profit (right now it is just prints for cost)

But right now Smugmug is your option for selling prints for profit

Smugmug looks awesome, just checked it out. Didn't know about the selling features. The only downside is the $150 / year subscription. I'm not sure how much interest I'd have in prints from an autocross... Seems like I'd have to sell a bunch to break even.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to get the word out at such an event?

Show up Saturday with your camera, show up Sunday with a case of prints.

Well, I think my idea is dead in the water, at least for autocross. I learned that there is a guy at the local events that shoots and posts online for FREE. Damn him! A friend who autocrosses brought up a good point, too. Many autocrossers are cheap so it's not likely that I'll be able to sell prints. The Porsche club runs some events, though, so maybe I'll hit them up.

The other idea is to go to bigger tracks, but I've heard some tracks will charge you a fee as a vendor. I'm going to research this and post.

First step is contacing the facility the races/events will be run at and finding out their policy on selling photos to participants. Most facilities I work with have vendor fees, showing up and handing out business cards and cirumventing the track management will likely get yourself in trouble.
