KUBA

Try Calumet Photo, they Have a store in Hollywood, and another in Santa Ana, which is in Orange County just to the south of Long Beach. Calumet has a great web site with maps to their stores.

Good luck.

Sounds like you are going to be around the downtown Long Beach area.

Try these places, I dont know about their prices, but they are local:

Tuttle Cameras
562-424-8633 • 4019 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach,CA

Terry's Camera
562-436-6102 • 232 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach,CA

Terry's is in downtown, Tuttle is north of downtown about 10-15 minutes.

Ive only been to Tuttle, and I know for sure they do. I cant speak for Terry's but I drive by there all the time, and its a pretty big store. Im guessing that since they are a camera store, they also carry lenses.

If you're friend is willing to do a little bit of driving, there's Canoga Camera in Canoga Park (50 miles) or Samy's in Santa Ana/Venice/Fairfax district of Los Angeles.

I doubt Compton has any decent camera stores. ;)

I'll second Canoga and Samy's, with Canoga being the cheapest. If your friend is visiting with family, where there is a permanent mailing address, buying online from someone like Adorama, or B&H would be another option.

Tuttle camera will usually sell at retail/list price; ~$690. They will work with you a bit if you pay cash, but don't expect the price to be as low as Canoga Camera.

For what Canoga is charging for the lens (external link), it's sure worth the time to drive out there from Long Beach; even if $20 is spent on gas.

$690 versus $530...

I have had awesome experiences with Canoga Camera - both on line, and in person, in the shop. They will match on-line prices in store (which is something a few others won't do), and they are extremely helpful and knowledgable. They also generally ship orders the same day that are placed before 2:00 p.m., so they may even be able to ship it to where you are staying, and you can cut some of the gas prices that way. (I had a lighting set shipped to my home this past Thursday - I would have driven out to the shop, but it would have been $40+ for gas, and it was $12 for shipping... so I waited a day to get my hands on it ;) )
Also, if you call ahead, they will hold any items you wish to purchase at the "pro counter", so you don't need to worry about making the drive in vain.
