These flies were on a bench in SW London all facing the same way. The unlucky springtail came too close to one and I saw the fly pounce:

Ita a springtail, probably Entomobrya intermedia which are the most common round here. When you disturb a pile of damp leaf litter you may see some springtails using their special tail to spring to safety - this one wasnt quick enough though you can see the 'spring' extended.
