What are your LR import prefs and why?

I've tried a couple runs importing files and trying to integrate with my pre LR archive.

What import options did you find useful to making a seamless archive?

First let me say that I wish you could have favorite Import prefs like you do Export prefs.

Now, here is what my typical import prefs look like.

I copy and convert to DNG from CF card to HD to a folder titled To Be Sorted, by date (2007/July 13 for example).
I backup to a folder titled Needing Backup. This creates a folder for each import with the original filename from the camera and does not convert to DNG.
My filename pref is 2007_07_13__MG_8239.DN​G so date_original filename.
I use a preset called Import Starting Point. I created this preset to zero out the sharpening from LR 1.0. I still use it even though 1.1's sharpening is improved because I haven't found that setting I want to use yet. Otherwise everything else is as shot.
I use my Copyright for the metadata template.
I add keywords.
I do not render previews.

I'm so with you on the export bit. But wow, I like your ideas for import. Mine seem savage and archaic compared to what you're doing.

I'm flipping, I'm going to try a similar if not exact setup as you and back-modify my catalogue to match the new workflow. My old and current camera calibration plus zero'd sharpening will be my preset for sure. I'll back up before of course. I see a terabyte in my future.
