I want to purchase a flash unit for my G5, but I can't afford to spend much $ right now. The canon 420EX or 220EX would be my first choices, but I just don't have the $.

Can someone please recommend an off-brand or generic flash unit that is around $50-75???

I saw these on ebay, so maybe someone can comment about the quality:

I don't plan on purchasing until I learn a little more about the different brands and their compatibility (or lack of) with my G5.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

For 48 bucks the specs are not believable. Looks like a manual unit as well, what with that chart on the back. Nothing is said about E-TTL so you have to measure the distance and set the flash manually every time.
You will tire of that real quick and stop using it. Waste of money.

Use the (free) built in flash till you can come up with the extra $ 100. It's E-ttl automatic and I would bet it's even better.

At about $ 170 the 420ex is the ONLY thing to buy. Why did you buy a G5 when there are 50 to $ 100 cameras out there. same thing.
