I finally got me a weevil ....

... but the worst kind - the dreaded vine weevil. It was on my backdoor step yesterday and I would normally have trodden on it lol, but decided to let it live (as long as it didnt come indoors and start chewing at my orchids - if I find it indoors Im gonna stamp on it lol).

It knew it was treading on thin ice with me and in its hurry to get away stepped into a spiders thread and got in a bit of a pickle lol.

A slight crop of the head (not literally lol):

All three shots are great, but in my opinion they come out in the same order shown. I see #1 as best in that the depth of focus and the background and the lighting work together to give the best illusion of depth and reality.

#2 is very good, but lacks the punch of #1 - possibly due to the plane of focus being just a little in front of the subject.

#3 is also very good - just not as much impact as #1.

Excellent series Linda - You've got to admit they are photogenic . Not certain but I think it's the larvae of vine weevils that do most of the damage to plants.
