Had a tough time chasing down this spider and would like to know what kind it is. Funny enough that it was watching my every move, if I stepped right or left, it turned to face me. C&C welcome.

Having a quick look on the net it seems you've captured a Phidippus apacheanus an Apache jumping spider. Nice looking spider.

Yep, tis a jumping spider, lovely looking one as well. I think Brian has nailed the ID :) I note on that link it says that they can cause a painful bite, I seriously doubt it.

Thanks to Alby and Brian for the help on this ID, but I think Alby won his round. Brian your link showed me the spiders of Kaweah River Delta Region which is no where near me (I am in South Texas). A quick google search of 'Phidippus apacheanus' brought up this website: http://bugguide.net/node/view/27092/bgpage (external link)
This species is the closest relation due to the entire back of the spider being orange and where its found...near Texas so far in Oklahoma under 'Data' tab. Maybe I'll submit these shots to get them confirmation of the spider in Texas.

Thanks for the comments. Also, I don't think I will try to find out if the bite is painful or not.

Thank you. When I was taking the pictures, I really thought the spider would jump on me. It actually would also raise its two front legs when I would move towards it.

This reminded me of one of my shots, but I believe mine is a wasp. Could be cousins...

Looks like what we used call a Cow Killer in South Carolina, big furry ant that likes to eat carrion as I remember...
