hi....i am just wondering if the focal length of the new s1sI will throw the back ground of a photo out of focus or is it only with a slr camera ? i like the new camera and was thinking of buying one. thank you for your input....

Depends on what you're shooting and if you want the background to be blurred

The S1 does a pretty good job of producing shallow depth of field, especially at the longer end of the zoom range. Take a look at the first two images of butterflies in my gallery here:

I haven't tried any portraits with the S1 yet, but will give it a try soon and report back.
