My husband and duaghter working the dogs, out in the 'big river' (st. Clair).

Do you think the desaturation works?

I think in this instance it does work. ( I also think you have a giant dust bunny on the upper left of your sensor.)

yeah i think it works too, the background might be a little busy if you hadn't desaturated...good work!

Yeh I noticed the dust spot!! The more I look at this picture the more I like it!!

I just relized you can see two countries too in this picture!! Canada in the foreground and The US (michigan) in the background!

Before i read your text, i looked at the image and thought how bizarre, that little girls toy looks alot like a dead duck on a rope. But having read the text, guess there is a good reason for that.
Like the desat.
I'm no expert on cropping, but I find my eye tends to wander to the boat. Just wondering what you'd think of cropping it from the bottom upwards just outside right of your husband, and then straight left just above his head (would also get rid of the dust bunny)?

I really like it. Compared to the original color, the desaturated version feels more like a work of art to me. The colors in the original do not really pop out. One would think the desatuarted version would look more bland, but to my eye, it's just the opposite.
