They said exactly what I was going to say.

DON'T sit on your bum & wait for it to happen coz it won't!

Get a domain and a web gallery where people can look at your photos.

Make a business card with your web address on it, and just say to people, they should look there & if they are interested contact you. It works well. Shows your serious and not a pervy creep (well hoefully makes them think that you ar not )
Just remember if you want it to happen you have to make it happen.

Thanks Peter. I see what you all mean. Making the sort of right image for myself. I know I need to do something. Ive been doing some thinking and research tonight.

I am thinking of putting my favorite / most powerful work on a website. And using flickr for my everyday photos. But the special ones go on my site.

I had a look at smugmug. They have a pro account. But I don't want to spend around $200 on some extra features that I don't need.

The standard account does not allow you to have a domain name. BUT the "power" account does. Plus it has a "right click" copy right thing. Which will add more value to my photography. Plus when I meet and greet potential models etc I can just give them a domain name. Which is cool. Also I have got something to show my company as well. Without sort of feeling ashamed of my flickr site.

http://www.smugmug.com/price/power-users.mg (external link)

That is power user account. I am excited! ill start off with the trial and then ill buy an account. I don't know what domain name yet. But it will have to have "mediation" in it.

Thanks for the advice. My degree is actually in media :p so I am not completely dumb. But I do need a kick up the ass every time.

I see. I have got no knowledge of how to build these websites or this whole hosting stuff. I just want unlimited space, it to look modern and to have my own domain name.

Is there an NZ site that would build me a site? :)

So using smugmug is seen as cheap?

Ill do more research and think. Ill come back with something. But yeah I get what you mean Tony.

 No better lesson than practical.. none of this text book stuff...

Its not that hard to get a website built and host it and whatever... you dont need any of those other crap websites as Tony has said.

Our website was the very first thing to go up.. then we registered here : www.photo.co.nz (external link) then for 6 months I worked on the rest.. people slowly found our site without me even pushing it. I also got word out there through friends and family. To this very day I've still not advertised anywhere other than that link above (and most of our hits dont come from there) .....
Why dont you bounce things off your dad... he would have a huge network that surely he could get your foot in the door

Duncan that is so cool.....

4 reasons....

1. trucks
2. fuel truck (could be)
3. the city
4. an empty road....

that tells the story as a picture... nice work...

maybe one tiny little gripe - a cp filter may have helped the sky a touch... but its only a very minor point...

Those are from the D700, Some of the photos are a series that has been used in the D700 brochure.

So that means the photographer is using a pre-production model, or they are taken with another camera and passed off as a D700 photo.
