Mark behave ... these guys need our support in their new roles ... not chastised by everyone. jez they do a great job - there is very little spam (if any) on the site and it is a relative good place to be in...

yes Matt annoys you - he does others too but lets the Mods deal with it now (and as we have two amoungst us now) this will be dealt with sooner, rather than later

(maybe thats the idea of getting a couple from our part of the woods) ;)

um

Focus? - Yeah - I get the impression it was called the Serious Photography thread to differentiate between Serious Photography and chat - which you have the other thread for - and competitions - and expeditions - all covered by threads...

So....

show us some of your serious photography then :)

I will when I get 5 mins to myself to process some :)

I do support the mods, but they must also lead by example and not have double standards.

DEMANDING respect is not how it works, it has to be earnt.

Keep it on focus... has there ever been any? :)

Its ok, I am sure I am about to get banned anyway :) Someone has a new gun and is itching to use it.

Okay.....

I'm not taking sides here, but I do have a couple points to make.
1. Moderators, no matter how much or how little time they've been on the job, deserve respect. Whether a person has been a moderator for a week or a year, they are empowered by their position to exert influence over the discussions that take place here, but only for the purpose of maintaining the civility of the forum, and seeing that all rules are adhered to. Nobody in the history of the forum has ever been banned without cause, so anyone who thinks they're on the verge of being banned must have a guilty conscience.;) I am not going to look any further into this ridiculous suggestion because I trust the moderators who are active participants in this thread.

2. Publicly disrespecting a moderator---ANY moderator---will get you in trouble. If anyone has a problem with one, discuss it with him/her by PM, but don't air dirty laundry on the open forum, not even by innuendo.

3. If you can't resolve your differences with that moderator, contact a senior moderator or administrator, and lay out your grievances. They will look into it. Before you do, however, understand the following: The moderators on POTN hold their positions because they have demonstrated good judgment, an understanding of POTN rules, and an ability to get along with people. They were offered the position because they have the complete confidence of Pekka and the Senior Moderators. Even if that were not the case, they do not have arbitrary dictatorial powers, and there is a system of checks and balances to make sure that never happens.

This is a friendly group, but occasionally, it's almost like someone has spiked the punchbowl, and things tend to get a little contentious. Let's try to keep that from happening again, okay?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

There are 3 really good ones:

Auckland Camera: on Great North Road in Morningside. Most of the staff know about GKPE and know a couple of us by name :o
Really good supplier of pretty much everything.

Apix: At the Mt Eden end of Great North Road. Set up more as an equipment supplier to established professionals, for things like lights, stands, back grounds, accessories etc. They also sell cameras and lenses, but they are not the focus of their show room. Thier prices are all listed exl of GST as well.
But, they are still very freindly well sell to anyone.

ProGear: On Parnel Rise in Parnell.
Started by a guy called Glam who is well known on TradeMe and by most GKPE members. I have actually get to get in there when it is open, but sells a similar range of products to Auckland Camera.

All 3 shops are staffed and run by photographers, and all 3 are very knowledgeable and very helpful.

There are other shops around, but the quality of staff and price of thier products do not match.

So long and thanks for all the flash

So be it ... but call me old school, I always believed respect had to be earnt, and leaders and people in authority should lead by example.

Perhaps that needs to go both ways too? Just a suggestion ...

Duly noted ... will say no more on the subject ... in public
