ss - hmm not sure why either... i have a feeling i am getting web interference..

try lifting the luminance (in raw) on the orange/red sliders and maybe dropping the sat a little as well for those two

you could even tweak the yellow a little if the orange isnt quite enough?

Hi there,

I'm new here.

Work at a camera shop in wellingtron and during the weekends I pretend to be a photographer... I do some work for my old school (mainly sports) as well as the odd wedding and whatever else takes my fancy.

cc?

This was taken at the wellington Cancer society Relay for Life which I was covering for my old school... bloody freezing day... by the end of it I was completely sodden and my feet had changed shape.

welcome to the forum Tim, there are couple of other people in the wellington area that are in to photography around here. some of them even post in this thread time to time.

there is a thread that they post in for get togethers. it's in the POTN member Activities area somewhere. I would find for ya but I am lazy.

There is also a general chit chat thread in the General Chat area.

I like your photos but I find the out of focus ball distracting in the first photo. Of course take that with a grain of salt. I don't shoot sports so the comments are coming from someone that's just looking at the photo. The 2nd one like SS said is a good expression.

so if you had taken these with your old 400D, what do you shoot with now?

Well the 22nd surprise birthday last night went well. It felt so cool to have my camera there and that flash. There was a nice white ceiling. So it acted as a lovely bounce flash. Got even and soft lighting :)

I think I did a good job, in terms of photographing "that moment". Candids and ones that I set up. Overall I can really understand why flashes are so damn awesome. So handy. And actually forces me to think about lighting.

Ill post up my favorites. Or just one sample. Im uploading them now on flickr.

Ah I really want to buy a flash. But basically 3 more weeks until I can get that lens. I also need a new battery :(

I am such an idiot. So I brought a third party battery NP-E3 and its fantastic. My original one was pretty much a dud because the battery is dead after 100 shots. Usually less. So I saw on the forums you can replace the battery's inside the pack.

I pried opened the original canon NP-e3 battery. And went to Jaycar electronics and brought 10x AA tab batteries. And heat shrink. I suck at soldering. So I tried to make the battery packs. But the battery's are too fat and my soldering sucks. Plus I forgot how to assemble the damn thing again.

So I have essentially got a big freakin mess on my desk. Wasted $52 on batteries that ended up ruining my canon np-e3. DAMMIT!

Duncan, thanks! I can return the flash to you some time this weekend. You name the time.

u should use a catchlight card to force some of the light forwards, to avoid the racoon eyes effect that both these photos have
