Engagment Pictures - Train Station

yesterday I shot some engagement pictures at a train station in Ogden, Utah. The groom was super excited about having pictures taken in front of a waterfall so we hit up a place with a waterfall and then went over to the Union Station for some more pictures. They are getting married at the train station in September. Then the groom insisted that I see the wedding invitations before I leave. I've never seen a groom so excited about getting married. Sorry the pictures are a little dark I think its the black border. I made 2 mistakes when I took these pictures #1 I had the ISO at 800 from a previous shoot and didn't put it back to 100. I'm kicking myself now over it. #2 I should have used some fill flash for the waterfall shots because the trees caused spotty light and dark spots on the couple.

7 I like but her skin tone looks a little funky..
3 I like, but it looks a tad oof, but that could certainly be from compression.

and I think you would be to far for fill flash to work on the outside pics anyway...it didn't even bother me or cross my mind that you would need it there..

I have looked at a lot of your past theads because your style caught my eye right off. It is very artsy and different from a lot of the others. I really, really like your stuff. I feel that you put a lot of time and effort in perfecting your work and it shows. Keep up the great work, it's fantastic!

BTW, I have done the ISO Boo-Boo you mentioned, makes you sick doesn't it? Luckily when I did it, it left enough of an impression on me that I now faithfully check ALL my settings every time I go to shoot.

Mrs.Opie, I love looking at your stuff!! I was going to say that #8 was my favorite, but then #5 caught my eye, then #2...pretty much, they're all good! My only nit-pick is that the skin tones seem pale in a few of them, like #5, but it really doesn't bother me too much. Thanks for sharing

I think everybody who has been shooting a while has made that iso error. Way back when I used to shoot in Av, I took a third of the outdoor high noon sun formals at 1600. yuck. Once I switched to manual it's harder to do because you're always mindful of the shutter speed.

Much like you, I like somewhat darker photos with high contrast. But I'm curious, how do these turn out on print? I've had to lighten up my style a bit because the prints were just coming out way too dark.

oh I did a "special effect" for these ones. The original color ones are much lighter. I used Kubota's "modern antique" but just adjusted the amount of color that would show through with the black and white. Thats why the skin tones don't look natural they are desaturated. I thought it was be fun for these pictures because the effect works rather well with the trains. However, I always give the client the original and the one with an interesting effect.

Some great captures in this thread, i particularly like #2 and love the expressions in 1& 8 of the bride to be. I'm one ofr great colour and contrast too so i love the feel of these but am interested in the prints too.. do you need lighten them?
