I'm looking to get this camera and put it in Canon's WP-DC11 waterproof housing for snorkeling (no diving). I'll be shooting it in Caribbean water conditions. Does anyone have any comment on this housing? On how well the internal flash works in these conditions? How safe is the camera etc...

Also any tips for shooting with this camera underwater (I've got the basics down - get close, etc...).

I'm coming to this from the DSLR world so I'm good on exposure, white balance etc...

I have the WP-DC11 housing for my G7. Went diving with it for the first time a few weeks ago in Grand Cayman, did about 15 dives total. Housing works great, esp for the price. It's the second Canon camera I have in a Canon housing (other is a SD500). Not sure what your experience level is underwater, but just take the normal precautions with the housing.

can't really comment on the effectiveness of the internal strobe underwater, as I have an external strobe, but you will definitely get a shadow of the lens barrel on macro shots. The diffuser should help somewhat.

I just posted up some pix today: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=350580

I'm not terribly experienced in underwater photography but reasonably experienced in diving. I will be using this for pictures during snorkeling for picts below and above the water in the Caribbean. Lighting should be decent in both without a flash, I would think.

true, for snorkeling, you will have a lot of sunlight and won't have to depend on the flash as much.
