I hope this doesn't belong in the glamour section.. If it does, I'm sorry..... and you can re-locate it...

Something new and different for me ... :)

I took a step outside of my normal comfort zone to shoot a body builder from my gym.

With a little help from 2 other AZ POTN'ers we had a blast with this session...

Thought I'd share a few of my favorites... I think I'll do this again...

Unlike a newborn, I didn't get pee'd on once, and he actually posed when I asked him to... cooperated and make funny jokes too! (lol)

IT was a total blast shooting this subject, and a great team of photographers too! I think we did an awesome job with the studio lighting,
and it was my first time doing a 4-light set-up....

The outdoor photos were a single strobe.

CC welcome and thanks for looking! :)

Love the lighting in #1. The eyes seem a bit overdone in #2.

Kristy,
Congrats on moving out of your comfort zone. That is when we truly begin to refine our skills both creatively and technically..... of course it's always nice to have the opportunity to do some in a 'practicing' format and with other photographers to do some problem solving. Very nice work!!! :)

The lighting is good in all of these shots. I'm not sure when these aren't posted in the critique section if it is appropriate to offer CC.... but here are a couple of things that strike me on first glance. On number one, the pose is excellent as is the lighting. I really love how the light is illuminating his right arm. Your 3-4 light set up worked well! My only 'critique' on number one is that it appears as though some of his body oil has rubbed off of his back and so the lighting looks a little flat on those spots. Number two is a great 'location' style shot. Beautiful use of the pool. His eyes bother me... maybe if he could attempt a little more 'sultry' look and relax his eyelids they wouldn't appear quite so "open". And number three is definitely interesting. I'm not sure if the rock on the left side does anything ---- have you looked at the shot without the rock there? Hmmm.

Anyway, well done and no doubt you had fun shooting someone who didn't pee on you! LOL

Thank you. The eyes are definitely overdone in #2... I was going for overdone glamour on that one... seemed fitting for the pose and setting... All smoothed out and overdone..

Thank you for your comments. Of course I love CC on everything I post... It's so nice to get another person's viewpoints.... His eyes are just unique in their own right.. his iris's are small-ish and he seems to have more white area around them than the average norm... so it always seems that he is opening his eyes large, when he really is just being normal...

The rock shot was just an experiement at the end of our outdoor session. The sun was gone and it was completely dark, so we continued to play with our strobe outside... I kinda liked how it turned out.. and the rock left in the frame seemed to add to the element with the whole sword thing... I have no idea... I'm used to fluffy sweet babies and pregnant bellies, and little children.. so this was totally off the cuff and oh so much fun!

The subject here was a pleasure to work with and we all had a fun time! :)

I dont know much about body building but i think it would be good to have his back as shiny as the rest of his body to show off his back muscles. (in the first photo).
The second image makes me pull back a little. His eyes are a bit intimidating... :(

Thanks Ryan... It was a group effort.. and lots of fun! :) He actually has a collection of swords and such, so we played with them at the poolside.. Lots of images yet to work through.. :)

Yes.. I see what you mean about the oil.. We didn't help him with oiling up... so maybe he couldn't reach that spot... Didn't even think of it to be honest with you...

His eyes are very intense... you ar right... but everyone has a different look and that's his... :)

Thanks for the comments... :)

Somehow I missed this the first time around. Wow, this is definitely a step out of the comfort zone of baby photographs, I think you did great!
They're all wonderful, only nitpick aside from the oil which some pointed out would be the rock in the corner of #3. Those eyes are KILLER in #2. Very compelling. I'm in awe, you did very well.

Thanks Sue.. :)
You don't like the rock? I thought it added a rustic feeling to the whole sword thing so I left it in... Hmmm?? I think someone else didn't like it either...

I like the water dripping in #2... It was a fun experiment.

Here are some other shots that were posted by Hatch... https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=347494 We all got a lot of the same shots, but
it's interesting to see our different PP styles... I went for glamorous... he went for rugged... :)

I can see what you mean about the rustic but to me its not enough of the rock to lend it that feel, but that's just me. Everything else looks topnotch.

Thanks again Sue... :) I guess I'll burn it out and see how it looks... It was really an experiment with lighting and Frank (the other photographer) and I had fun... I think we had more throw away shots than keepers on the outdoor session.. but we learned something about lighting that night.. :)

and I even like the rock in the the 3rd..but its not enough to know if its supposed to be there or if it was a mistake in catching it...
but that number 2 just makes me swoon.

You have me totally laughing.. I'm sure John will love to hear your report... :)
That second shot is doing exactly what I had hoped for... At least it works on you.. I was thinking boy calendar effect or something...

Swoon away.. :) And thanks for the nice comments! I had help from 2 wonderful friends with shooting, so I can't take all the credit.. But we did have fun!

The first shot is the best one in terms of showing off his body. Shame about the oil, but hey, you'll fix it next time! :) Good shot.

Third shot isn't my thing, apart from the stone (easy to clone out), I wish there were more shadows to highlight his muscles, and the face expression should be different.

I'm thrilled you're trying something out of your comfort zone though! Always fun, and this stuff sure isn't easy!

p.s. Love his eyes in #2! Sigh...
