I wouldn't normally ask... but...I just spent the last hour on http://www.bugguide.net (external link) and after 200+ pages of butterfly photos... I couldn't find this one. I'm sure it is a common butterfly... maybe I just missed it in the mix. I think I have seen every skipper butterfly known to man!!! LOL I didn't know there were so many types.

Thanks for the help.
Hatch

It could be a foreign immigrant but I think it's possibly a monarch but an albino aberration. Well spotted - it could be quite scarce.

Great shot - very striking with the strong black / white contrast - almost looks like it has been painted!

Great shots! Do you have any pics of the butterfly with the wings open, as sometimes the pattern insider differ from the pattern outside. Good luck ;)

It's one of the tree nymph species I'm pretty certain. Not sure what it's doing in the US though as they are a malaysia / SE Asia species. They are common enough in butterfly houses though (I've shot them in various collections in the UK) so could be an escape.

You all nailed it... many thanks! It isn't listed on http://www.bugguide.net (external link). Maybe I should send it over lol...would save people hours looking through the thousands of butterfly photos they have on their site.

Thanks again all.
