As part of a recent long trip I stopped by Antony's instalation at Crosby near Liverpool and took these. The piece is by the same bloke who did The Angel of the North near Newcastle, and is a series of bronze casts of himself, 100 in total, spread out across a 1km x 3km stretch of beach, vanishing and appearing as the tide goes in and out. These are my faves but the album from the whole trip (Le Mans/Cornwall/Crosby) can be seen here:- Clicky (external link)

The last one is my fave. Seeing those statues must surprise more than a few people!

I like #2 with the pebbles and stones leading into the picture.

So cool. I love them all. It is such a bizarre idea. Last one definitely has something.

an auckland artist did a similar thing with rows of toitoi (pampas grass) seedheads (these are several feet tall with a fluffy top) stuck into the mudflats that are beside the northern & western motorways - he was asked to remove them because they were causing a visual distraction for all the motorway drivers!

can you believe it?

LOL.

Mr Gormley has faced a long and irritating battle to have these statues kept in place. I think this is the fourth place they've been installed in but after much arguing they've ended up staying permanent in Crosby. Everyone from surfers to shipping companies (the mouth of the river Mersey a major shipping route is just down the way) complained I think, but sense prevailed. I think they're ace. I shall be revisiting.

Cheers, Dave.
