I wanted to try this panoramic idea for motorsports. I think some of these work, some don't so much but I thought I'd share them all. Chasing this idea got me kicked off the Mulsanne straight twice, second time round with a searchlight from a helicopter above, so after a sever dressing down I decided not annoy the Gendarmes any more and left it...

As before full album of the two weeks in various places is here:- Clicky (external link)

The last two are my faves and I've already got some orders in which wasn't expected so that's cool. I found fighting the flare off the huge lights was the major issue. Top glass used, and my mate on a D2X and 17-55 f/2.8 was having the same problem. Go for it on the comments front again...

Cheers, Dave.

wow, those were just one shot, not multiple shots and then PS together? I have that same lens and I didn't know that it could get so wide.

Anything up to 21 shots, and made using the Manfrotto 303SPH panoramic head, remote (obviously) and then stitched together using Realviz Stitcher Unlimited. These will go comfortably to between 3 and 4 mtrs wide.

Cheers, Dave.

All shot on the daft tripod head of mine SS, and using the 5D and the 24-70L. Some of them required some strange uses of grad filters to get an exposure but hey ho! ;)

Cheers, Dave.

The last picture is my pick. I think this type is fine if it's part of a set of pictures that tell a story, or as a single picture hanging in a den at home which was dedicated to motor sport pictures.
One thing is for sure were all different in our likes and dislikes.
Thanks for showing the pictures to us.

Hi. I really like the idea, something a little different. One has to suffer for ones art !

Suffering wasn't the word. ;) We were up from about 2pm on the Saturday (having got up to watch the historics the same morning and the gone back for a nap) through til 9am Sunday morning, where we got a few hours, then stayed up til about 11pm on the Monday night travelling through the night. Tired wasn't the word.

Thankfully for the night of the race itself, it stayed dry and clear and the biggest thing we had to worry about was where the coffee was coming from and keeping warm. These shots will be the ones I'll take away with me I think, they're the ones I worked my ass off for and created some strong memories.

Cheers, Dave.
