Hello,

I am new to this forum, and thought I would introduce myself. I am 16 years of age and have been into photography for 5 months; I started with a Canon Ixus 60. It served me well, up until a week ago, when the lens refused to retract. I have now ordered a Powershot G7 which should arrive tomorrow. My main field of photography is Macro. The Ixus 60 was great for this purpose, but it had a maximum focus distance 3CM and a modest 6MP sensor. The G7, with a macro of 1CM and a 10MP sensor, coupled up with full manual controls should allow me to expand my hobby.
I have a very fond interest in wildlife, which compliments my interest in photography very well. I do not think I have the experience to go all 'DSLR' so I feel that the G7 should suit my purposes exactly.

Below I have attached some Macro shots. All have been taken with the Ixus 60. (Taken from my DCMag account)

Here are the shots I was not allowed to post in the original due to the image cap of 8.

Welcome to the forum MM, that's a great first post with some pretty decent shots, I'll look forward to seeing more and congrats on the new camera, I hope it turns out to be what you expect. That Tussock moth looks like a ram jumping over a fence.

I look forward to your results and comments when you get your G7. It is a camera I am considering as an intro to matters digital.

Roy.

I have a G6 and there is no doubt they can get excellent results. I'm not sure why you decided not to go dslr with the 350D so cheap now but thats your call. One thing, the smaller sensors of the compacts give better DOF and your shots prove that with most of the body in focus. The bumble-bee and spider with egg are my favorites. That Hawk moth is an impressive fellow. What country are you in?

England (Sevenoaks, Kent) - These were all taken within my garden and surrounding area, although I live a bit back in the countryside, which is great for wildlife shots.

My reasoning for not getting a DSLR was that the price of a body + a macro lense able to take macros of the quality the ixus offered would cost a vast amount for someone my age. I have heard great things about the G7, and only being into photography for 5 months, I really want to perfect my technique with manual controls before I buy a DSLR. I will get one in time though.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 - great program although I am yet to master pretty much anything in it yet. I do not really do on PP on my pictures, and they usually are as they are. I sometime increase saturation to help bring out the colours of the subject or sharper the shot slightly.

I really like the butterfly shot. The detail and patterns of the wings are nice and crisp. The other shots are nice as well. Thanks for sharing.
