sigh, don't you hate it when you've been waiting a week for your new lens, you get it, and straight out of the box there's a problem. got my refurb 35L from adorama, and frankly pretty disappointed, extremely soft wide open (which some would tell me is user error) but not even manually focused pictures are sharp. but the bigger problem is that AF does not work 100%, it will just stop autofocusing when shooting, had it on the camera for 10 minutes

now i have to send back a $1000 lens and wait for the refund, i don't know how some folks stomach sending back multi-thousand dollar packages on a regular basis!

sorry just comiserating, but also a warning, i was surprised at the refurb lens. i've bought a refurb camera from adorama and no worries, but in this case i didn't even get a refurb box with the lens! in fact it didn't even AF when i mounted it initially, and there's play in the focus ring. i don't think i'm going to buy refurb lens anymore.

I usually prefer to buy used in here rather than refurbs to be honest with you.
At least with the sellers here, you are dealing mostly with reliable people who have used the lens before.

You would figure the refurb would be just as good as new...maybe this was just an isolated case.

Hope you get a replacement.

If you've only played with it for 10 min, it would be better to play with it maybe a little more. You might find something else than the problem you are seeing...

my first L lens died on me in 30 minutes and had to be returned. my first DSLR (300d) gave me a err 99 right out of the box and had to be sent in for service.

my 5d blew a shutter after 15k actuations. i rented a 35L and it was softer than baby poop.

where's my little violin so i can play you a sad tune ;) ?

I just looked at some refurbs at Roberts, they seem ok....but now I don't know. they are priced pretty well, 70-200 f/4 L for $450 and comes with a 1 yr warranty..I'm not allowed to buy used anymore...too many bad experiences (yes, on here..).

I just hear too many bad things about scamorama. Granted, the lens issue is more Canon's fault but waiting a month for a refund probably means that they "lost" your paperwork.
I'd contact the CC company to file a dispute and get the funds credited back.

thanks for all the comments (including ed's tiny violin solo). i sent it back today, if it was just soft i might've played with it more but since the AF was not working i figured it was a lost cause. had it on the camera for so little time, sigh. well i decided to roll the dice again and try the sigma 30 1.4--but this time from amazon, who give me 30 days and free return shipping. wish me luck!

ps. and i really hope i don't have the problem elguapo is dealing with! adorama's prices are ok, but their CS is just not friendly...
