i like the first out of the set the best, even tho the flash is a little distracting

I like them all although I'd be inclined to crop out the flash in 1 as I find it distracting.

the last one is the boyo for me, pushes all my buttons. Great composition of the rider with the empty space. oh yeah your sensor looks to have alot of dust on it too.

The flash is a little distracting but still makes a good shot...something different! I like the second shot most. Nice work on all.

The second shot for me, with the other two the rider/bike is not filling the frame enough plus the third could be more in focus.

I've a friend who is heavily into MTB here in the UK, and at some point I would like to cover this sport. What lens do you folks find works best?

I mainly use my 70-200 f2.8 and 16-35 f2.8 for MTB. Each has it's own use. I would say the 70-200 used to see more use than the 16-35 and a lot of other MTB photogs use the 70-200 for many of their shots.
