I took the kids to Auckland Zoo on Sunday, and was lucky that Ozzie, their new tiger was up and very active. The new Tiger enclosure is great! He came right up to the glass, so at one stage I was literally face to face with him. Just a few centimeters seperating us. These were shot through the glass.

Oh, BTW, the 2 shots have slightly different colour balance. 1st is a bit bluer, 2nd slightly green. Which do you prefer the look of?

great shots scott, I like the 2nd one as it's a nice pose.

many people at the zoo. last time I went I found it hard to get a good location and to shoot thru glass.

as to the colour balance, I can't tell sorry.

these are great shots - lol the second one is a bit green tho
a handy tool for colour balancing similar photos is the photoshop 'match colour' tool
you just choose one pic as the source photo (after youve already balanced it how you want it to be) and it will adjust the colour balance/proportions of the open photo to 'match'

The zoo wasn't too busy. When I arrived at Ozzie's enclosure, he was sitting up the back out of site, so nobody was hanging around. I waited around for a while, and was lucky that he got up and started patroling all over. I had a prime position for the best photos! Here is another:

I only have humble elements 2.0 (I know, I know, I should upgrade and learn to use real photoshop..... ) I think this a better go at #2.

cracking shots - however the pp looks either a bit flat (first pic) and still green - second shot is better - a touch green but not bad a little blow out on the rocks around Ozzie - as is the third shot - the third shot also looks a little oof - maybe a little less saturation and bit more sharpening.

but above all - they are nicely cropped and framed and have very regal poses. bloody good tiger shots.

hmm pic has changed so ignore the comments on pic one.. ;)

Thanks everyone. I made a few minor adjustments after first posting them. I'm pretty happy with them now.

The green cast on the animal seems to be gone, but the greens that should be green still seem a little intense.

The main problem seems to be the patch of rock with moss/algae on it between the forelegs - it is brightly-lit and my eyes go straight for it to work out what it is. Selecting that part and reducing luminance might help, or perhaps you could have asked the tiger to take a step forward so that the shaded rock was visible between his legs. ;)
