initial workflow question

I have read a lot of great stuff on workflows and processing photos. My question is when you get home from shooting before post processing what is done. I read some people save into a folder, make a copy of the folder and work only on those so not to distroy the originals. How about afterwards do you save a copy for the web , 8x10 , 4x6's or just what is done. Please explain your photo storage and what happens before processing. I am really looking for ideas so I can get the process more fine tuned.

After i get home from shooting, I download my raw files from CF to computer. Then delete the bad ones and flag the ones i want to process. I then convert the raw using ACR and pp away in Photoshop. I save the PSD, and a small jpeg (150kb) for web. If i need to print, i just open the PSD in Photoshop and print. That means i don't save as hi-res jpeg unless the photo is sent to my family, relatives, and friends so they can print it at Wal-mart.

I periodically backup my raw and psd. Since the web jpeg is not that big, i back up together with the raw.

It depends on what I need to do with the photos. What I usually do is copy the RAW files to the computer and then make a back up to another hard drive or DVD. I delete the bad images and then convert the RAW to jpeg. For each event, I have two folders, RAW and jpeg with the files stored in there. The jpeg folder is for quick access, so that I can make CD's or export to the web. I always keep the RAW just in case I need to go back and reprocess it. Never throw away RAWs, they're like film negatives.

I download through a card reader to my main HD (in a folder by date, then shoot). Then backup the originals to DVD. Then backup to an external HD. Then when I next sit down to PP (not always immediately - that's why I do 2 backups); I use Lightroom to weed out the the bad pics and do basic PP. The best ones I do final PP in PS CS3. Then I do dual backups of those.

The reason I save the bad shots is that as I learn new PS techniques, I keep fiddling with the old shots - I've saved some!.
