Guys I sold off my 350D and Sigma gear quite a while ago, hence the absence from here.
I always had a BF focus issue with that system, especially when trying to shoot my one love and thats sporting events.
I sent it off for repair and Canon said it was fine I even tried 4 different lenses including good IS 2.8s and still had it.
After sitting around with no camera-no lenses etc.. for quite some time, I am ready to get back into the fun.
I do not want another 350 I can tell ya that, and I want to shoot some night sporting events so I know I will be jumping on the high end lenses at 2.8.
My question is , what body? So many have come out since then, I really am having a hard time choosing.

2 choices....low end is the 30D which I use and does very well with noise ( iso) and focuses well

High end Mark IIn 3X the cost with better performance ( so I hear having never had one).

How much is your budget for the body?
The 30D is a nice buy if 5fps is good enough for your needs. It's a nice step up from the 30D...

As a current (but perhaps for not very much longer) 350D owner, I can really sympathize, believe me. So what made you decide to try another Canon?

Canon is all I know. I had thought of trying the N word, but I know nothing about them.

If your mainly going for sports, then the 1D series can't be beat (if you can afford it). If you don't have the cash for it, or just don't want to invest that much in a body, a 30D would work quite well.

this is true...but if money's tight, better to spend money on the 2.8 lenses than on a body.

also, what sports are you shooting? depending on the sport, it might even be possible to use a 5d if you can predict the shot better, and then you'd get really good high iso performance.

Mostly little league baseball and high school soccer and some indoor volleyball and hockey. There will be some night shots so a 70-200 2.8 is in the plans and probably a f4 400 for daylight, maybe both with IS if I can afford them havent checked in 2 years lol.
I may also shoot some road course races down in the TWS area. Thankfully I didnt sell my monopod and backpack:P

The 30D seems to be the way to go after doing some more reading, that way I can afford the better lenses.
The 350D was to small and I never could get the BF issues fixed so I wont even look at a XTi.
The 5D would be nice but I think I will get the 30 and use the money on glass.

For the soccer and baseball you might want something a little longer then the 70-200, definately want a 2.8 at LEAST! The f4 400 would be great for out door sports in decent light.

For indoor gyms and basketball and vollyball you will need a 85 1.8, f2.8 just doesnt cut it.

But for dark shooting like in plays and such the 2.8 probably will not be fast enough. I have the 30D and even at ISO3200 your subject has to be dead still to get decent shots in a dark auditorium...
