Hi all,

I can't find my 100-400 manual so I thought to ask you good and knowledgeable people...

Does the IS mode 2 (panning) work in portrait orientation...? (to shoot water-ski)

I think the answer is "no" because the lens has to know its orientation but I thought perhaps the body [30D] can control this as it has an orientation sensor.

Thanks in advance...

ED

Thanks for the prompt reply but what I meant to ask was if mode 2 would work in portrait orientation...

For portrait ...I don't think that anyone would use mode 2 .

I wouldn't .

btw, i don't see a reason why that wouldn't work. the lens IS will correct for side to side movement and i think that the camera has nothing to do with that.

The manual seems to indicate you'd be fine (and IS would work).

"MODE 2 corrects vibrations and shaking only in the direction at right angles to the camera's panning movement."

It doesn't make any reference to portrait or landscape orientation.

Oh .....I missed understanding here ...If you say turn your camera vertical position ...then I think mode 2 is fine for water ski shot .
