I'm still using a 300D, I've finally got the money for a new body, now its just a case of waiting and seeing what the extra features vs extra price of the 40 vs 30 weigh out like. Wish they'd hurry up and release the specs/price on the damn thing.

I'm in the exact situation you're in. However, i might just get a 70-200 f/2.8 to get a nice focal range with my 24-70, if i don't see the need for a new body. But i'm getting tired of my 300D..

We should start a club. I'm still using my 300D too, and I am going nuts waiting for the 40D specs. I've been good and spent some money on glass, but now it's time for a body upgrade. Come on Canon! Let's have it already. I should probably just get the 30D, and use the savings on a 50mm 1.4.

Canon 24-105 f/4 L
Leica D-Lux 4 (24-60mm)

That's what I had in mind...there already is a decent upgrade for the 300D; either the 400D or the 30D.

more solid? whats wrong with the 350d? Its pretty solid to me especially with the grip on it. I may upgrade to the 30d if the 40d ever comes out, and when i do that the xt will become IR only.

alloy vs plastic body, that's the difference. Also there's a size difference between 20/d30d & 350/400d.

I was in a camera store the other day and asked if the lack of 20Ds in the stores was an indicator of a soon to be released 40D. The salesperson more or less dodged the question. I really don’t think people like that have an inside scoop on what’s in the pipeline. Companies are very protective of not-yet-released products and usually only spread rumors very close to launch to generate buzz.

I’m probably going to stick with my 350D for quite some time. I actually prefer the smaller body to the 20/30/5D size cameras. I just find those too cumbersome. If and when a 450D comes out and IF it has some *really* compelling features, I might upgrade. Until then, I’ll try to build up an assortment of quality lenses.

I just don’t see the point of constantly chasing the latest gadget with the newest bells and whistles. I think I have A LOT to learn with photography as it is and a new camera really isn’t going to help me take better pictures necessarily. I need to master the fundamentals first. That’s how I look at it anyway.

The lack of 20D's could also be explained with the fact that is was replaced a year and a half ago by 30D....

Either way, I can only assume a store has the same kind of reasoning as most of us in this thread right now -- we're not gona buy a new camera for at least another 3 weeks.

I think he mistyped "30D" when he said "20D"

Correct, I meant to type "the lack of 30Ds..."

it won't be available anywhere in August. It probably won't be available in September either. What you were reading about is an estimate of when the official press releases will come out. So, information on the camera MAY be available in Canada on Aug 23. Thats all unfortunately.

I hate being such a foolish early adopter, but man I cannot wait until they announce the new specs and launch dates!
