Finger hook: little notch in the side grip (the one that's built into the camera) that has space for one finger to rest in. very nice little touch, the 5D and 1D2 have this.

CFn-04 is touted as the holy grail, I call it the unholy inconvenience. It doesn't work for me, period.

1DsM3... I am not impressed at all.

Perhaps this marks the end of my photo hobbyist days? It sucks to be disillusioned and that usually means the end of the road. It's just like at work, I used to keep up with all the developments and now I say "call me when it's available for immediate order with overnight shipping" and "order whatever they have that's reasonable".

And i was starting to think i was the only one.

I like having AF and AE lock on separate buttons and besides, ive found myself in situations where i would have walked away with no usable shots if it wasnt for AE lock.

I don't like Cfn 4 either... never got the hang of it....

and the point of this finger hook?

hey if you try it and don't like it then it doesn't matter really. I have tried CFn-04 and was sold. now I find it hard to go back. Hell I even got my brother working that way.

the 1DsM3 is nice IMO but I don't really have a need for such a camera. it's more studio than anything else. I would still like to see the replacement 5D is going to be like.

When I read the specs on the 20D and the 30D it was like ok, nothing great or for me to upgrade the camera over. the increase in mp wasn't enought, the faster shutter speed wasn't enough. this however is a big step. However is it what I wont?

Who knows. I can't buy it now anyway so the question is on hold.

The finger hook is comfortable.

Same way some people find CFn-04 comfortable. I can respect other people's personal preferences, just that I don't like it being rubbed in my face (not talking about this thread, but in general in the equipment section).

I'm waiting for the 5DMk2, but may not upgrade even then. The 5D is fantastic, period.

My projection is that the announcement will hit in March '08 and incorporate a raft of 1D3, 1Ds3 and 40D features. Since the 5D is the sandwich camera, one can expect everything to be 'movin on up'.

I would not be surprised if the new WFT-E3A proves to be compatible with the 5DMk2, it seems logical enough (design one grip, design once, sell many copies to maximize ROI). I'm guessing the 3.0" LCD, extra "C" settings on the dial, integrated sensor cleaning will all be in as well. Usual MP boost will be there, maybe 16MP this time round. Faster firing - maybe, maybe not. Enhanced AF: maybe. 14-bit ADC, Live View and sRAW, definitely. 'white' (unpainted hotshoe), most likely.

I am waiting for Canon to throw a wildcard into the mix. The above features are nice but not absolutely must haves. They need more 'secret sauce' to make it tasty enough to hook me. :)

well using the camera comes down to what people like to do. it's like there is no right/wrong way of holding the camera either. we all do it differently. that's why canon has it as a function that you can turn off if you like.

The WFT-E3A I think would be cool and to be honest with the battery times etc I don't think the battery grip is needed. If the range is any good I could be outside shooting macro with the images being uploaded to the PC :)

Even more interesting are the pixel peeping results.

This is a decently fast zoom. f/3.5-4.5 is really not all that different from my favorite 24-105 f/4L IS. Well, apart from the IS. I'll call them the "EF" and the "L" respectively. Note that I dare to compare the L wide open to the EF at all focal lengths.. yup: a lot of faith in the L!

28mm: EF is weak. Stopping down produces some improvement, not a lot though, not as much as I hoped. L definitely has huge advantage here.

35mm: EF improves. Stopping down produces some improvement in the EF. L still has good edge as expected.

50mm: EF still getting better. L still leading the pack.

70mm: Here comes the big surprise. Both wide open, EF holds its own against the L. That's pretty impressive. Stopping down produces improvements in both. Both are nearly equal even when pixel peeping.

105mm: Both equal.. very impressed!

So this little gem of a lens gave the L a run for its money from 70-105. From 28-50, the L still conclusively proves its superiority. The surprise was that stopping down did not produce that much improvement. I think Canon has the design and process tweaked to perfection by now, so it's all up to the optical formula. I am genuinely impressed.

This is my second copy and I have benchmarked someone else's copy.

First 28-105 I owned: estimated age, more than 5-6 years ago. Mk1. Good condition, but had odd yellowish tint. Produced good results around the f/8-f/11 mark. Reasonable performance at wider focal lengths, even wide open to f/5.6. Tele end was ok.

Someone else's copy: estimated age, probably similar. Still good working condition, having seen only light use. Very weak wide open at 28 end, performance improves steadily when stopped down. Optimal was around f/5.6-8. Tele end was terrible, very weak even at f/8. Really needed to be shot at f/11.

Current copy: Awesome. Tele end is L grade sharp and capable of giving my 24-105 and 70-200 a run for their money. Wide end should be OK, definitely not an L but it will more than do. Very impressed. Brand new lens that just followed me home today. Sometimes you do win big.

Focusing is dead-on accurate. It's Canon USM.. it's to be expected.. :)

Forget the Tamron. This lens is a pleasure to shoot, even on the 5D. I fully expected the 12.7MP sensor to pound the crap out of the lens and I am surprised it held its own so well. I guess it is a proven, solid, credible design. Definitely the perfect complement to an Elan 7NE or even 5D full frame. I ain't giving up my L, but this lens is so nice it can even haul double duty on my 5D when I don't want to carry the big glass.

so that's where my lens went too,

give it back! NOW :lol::lol:

ohh it's not the L, ohh well you can keep it then.
