Okay, no Scott Macro here...but how about a huge crop and a 100% crop? Not too shabby for the 24-105.

serious wow factor here...will you show the full shot? These don't look like huge crops, the IQ is fantastic!

Puddle, we missed you today, but Scott did his best to make sure you were there in spirit.

Here I was, minding my own business shooting away at this:

When suddenly I sensed that there was an odd "presence" next to me....

The bee is now blind and you were missed.

this is too funny!

PETE, cool shots (both here and on TPBM) :)

Oh yeah... It was awesome. If I had the chance to do it again, I'd jump on it (with more CF cards and a spare battery!)

Okay Yoda...at great personal risk to my reputation (and sanity) here are your box shots (the gallery isn't public because my rep can only take so much )...the last shot was with both tc's and I missed focus a bit (sorry) but it was so bright outside MF was really hard...and inside it was too dark to do a reasonable shoot.

since you didn't want raw (see, I remembered from before), I shot on jpeg L, used "neutral" picture style, iso 500 (because I needed enough light for all the tc's so to keep it the same, I just used iso 500 across the board)...and various apertures (shot in M) & I've left the exif's in tact. The camera was in bright light but the box was in the shade (my yard wasn't big enough for both to be in the same light)....I've left the originals so you can download them at 100%.

The first three are with the 400mm alone and AF. The second 2 are with the 1.4x tc and AF. The next two are with the 2x tc and MF and the last one is with both tc's...

Great photos everyone. They've made sitting here more pleasant and I think will make me more ruthless in dumping. :)

A quick question:

Is the 85 f/1.8 prone to flare? I haven really had any chance on using it outside in the sun since I got it. I’ve ordered the hood for it (the ET-65III), but the importer seems to have none, and delivery time is 2-5 weeks. We’re leaving for our honeymoon in a few weeks and it seems like I won’t get the hood before we get back.

I've never heard that it was...but here's a link with a review...if it has flare trouble, you can be sure this guy will point it out (he's very harsh on non-L lenses)

I've never noticed any flare on my 85, and I've taken it out on some pretty harsh lighting. It seemed to perform quite well, no matter what I did. Of course, any lens will flare if shooting in the direction of the sun or bright light, but I've not seen any propensity for lens flare with this particular copy. Great lens.

I tend to ramble. Feel free to put me on ignore.

oh, maybe you should wait...last time I was going to dump a "crap load" of shots, Cat told me to wait for a few days and review them again...I actually found a few I liked when I did that...
