Are the iMacs TOTALLY silent - as in no fans? I know the Mac Minis are.

There might be a fan in this thing, but I've never heard it. It's very quiet.

well, it went pretty well. I really like this dentist (I wish he was mine...and may transfer after this crown issue). Very nice guy who made me feel like my tooth issue was important (verses my dentist who always makes me feel like my teeth issues are interrupting his tennis game or jogging or....)

They said there was no charge for today's visit (they aren't even in the same complex as my dentist...nowhere near him in fact...) and even though they had to come on on a holiday they aren't charging me (my dentist would :rolleyes. He ground down the sharp edges and put some temporary cement on the crown to cover the hole. I can't chew anything hard on that side until the crown is replaced (he said it will be necc. to replace it...) though but at least there's not a gaping hole or sharp edges until then...

I just bought a 20" iMac, and it's a very nice machine. I briefly considered the 24", but decided that it was too big for the intended use. It sits on a table between the two chairs my wife and I use in the family room, and the bigger iMac would have seemed more like a room divider.

My 'good' Mac is the MacPro. It's connected to two (2) 23" Apple displays. That's in the office.

I've pretty well eliminated all the PCs except for the one I do my business work on. I try not to go online with it any more than absolutely necessary.

Did you buy the new one with the glossy screen (just wondering how different it is from the other)? I love my imac...it's just like Dan's but with the intel processor. Definitely needs more ram though. But that will have to wait until after the wedding.

The only time I've ever heard a fan on the other imac was on a restart after the power went off while the computer was running...(improper shutdown)...when it was re-booting, it took a while and the fan came on. So it has one but you never hear it. I've never heard it on my new one either.

well this dentist told me that I couldn't chew anything hard on that side but I can live with that...so I'll talk to my dentist tomorrow and see when they can get me in...with him it's always a "we're booked for 6 zillion months ahead except for a cancellation on this ONE day at this particular time..." I really am going to switch after this is over. I'm HOPING that since my crown is less than a year old, my dentist will replace it at no charge (I doubt it but I'm hoping)...this new dentist said that when this happens to their patients, they DO replace them for n/c....

Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully your dentist will do the right thing. (Note to Permie's Dentist, if you're a Canon shooter, that is: GIVE HER A NEW CROWN AT NO CHARGE!). Too bad he's probably a NOINK shooter. :rolleyes

Anyway, my cousin was over last night with his daughter (1 year +1 day). I was too lazy to get the flash (and the pop-up on the 5D is still on the fritz!). So all that being said, I thought I'd share anyway....

So I am sitting here outside, waiting... and a treeshark comes running past WITH ANOTHER ONE IN HIS/HER MOUTH!!!! -- I sure hope it is a baby.... I don't think they eat each other


In other news - there is a 600mm f/4 non-IS on FM for $3800.... *I* don't want it But I am sure someone else does

Thanks Permie. Her name is Madison. She was born last September (she wasn't due until December!). She was as long as a pencil when she was born. Several months in the NICU. She's doing great now.
