T.D. Great shots, your fair had way cooler rides for long exposure than ours and better set up to get some great angles. Never thought to take a long exposure on the pick-a-duck, that is a very cool shot as well as the sunset behind the sky lift. I really like the Brown Swiss with the hanging petunias over her head. The balloon shots are just fabulous I'm envious you had the opportunity and even more envious of the great shots you got. Finally, I like the whale of an Orca tail.

"Max,

Thanks for your email and good eye on noticing my MK III today. Yes, sports photography is an expensive endeavor, to say the least. I rented a 300mm 2.8 L lens from Canon once and it was a dream, but to purchase that would be hard to swallow... I went to your smugmug site and you have more than a grasp for photography, you have real talent. Nice stuff for sure. I know Blaine and Jonnie and photographed Brandy's wedding some years back. I'm going to be photographing the first MDHS home football game on the 28th of this month, so why don't you come and hang out. I don't claim to be a renowned sports shooter but between the two of us, I'm sure we can get some good stuff for the yearbook.

Thanks,

Malcolm"

That's a great email to receive, Maxy. There's nothing better than to see good, supportive praise like that. A really good foundation on which to build. Enjoy yourself with that guy.

I give you The Hitchhiker:

So, I come home, and sit down and feel something odd on my neck, brushed it, and this guy drops on my desk. Looked dead. Set down a piece of paper, came back, and he made his way through one of the tear-off holes.

What a cutie.. ;)

It's a good thing that mouth isn't made for chomping humans!!

Gorgeously perfect shots Athena

Thanks Zane. I have a red flower too, but I am putting off taking photos of it because red is SO difficult to expose properly.

Zane - plant question. I have some gardenia bushes that I planted here and they have little bush pieces growing next to them. Is that a branch from underground or a new plant that I could dig up and replant in a new place (would love a few more)??

edit: et trois. :)

G'mae all

I'm not squished/smooshed - I'm just catching up from a couple of days where I've been to busy/tired to check in so much. We had the company golf day a couple of evenings ago and I talked myself into going down for the end of the golf and the meal to take some pictures. Got some great shots (well, I think they're pretty good for my first attempt at golf photo's) - I'll share some when they're all processed. I also took some shots of the presentation. The last few times, they've used the company P&S and it's been someone that didn't really know the camera so they had to re-arrange another attempt at a later date ;)

Thank goodness for the LCD is all I can say. I tried using my external flash which is an old generic unit, predating EOS camera's. It seemed to confuse the camera (even though I tested it beforehand) and I ended up with too much blur! At least I chimped and was able to re-arrange the shot there and then!

Now I've got to go through all the shots and prep them, one for the local rags and others to be printed up for a collage in the boardroom.

It once took me 14 days to get from Calgary to Vancouver, but it was a fantastic 14 days.

That is a fantastic trip. We took 8 days to do the same trip on a Brewsters coach tour as part of our Honeymoon. (2nts Niagara, 8nts Calgary to Vancouver and then 4nts in Vancouver itself - Hmm. wonder why I'm listing that by nights ;))

Sunday is still a bit special. Teresa will be 40 on Monday so I have managed to track down a whole load of people for Sunday Lunch at a place just 10 minutes down the road LINKY (external link)

It is where we spent our wedding night :-)

Oooo. Very nice. I'm sure Teresa will love it.

LOL no. But the Game Fair will have a lot of animals and country people there so may well be called off. They were during the last outbreak. I have just watched the news now and they are slaughtering all the animals on the farms neighbouring the one where the outbreak occurred even though they have no symptoms. The strange thing about this outbreak is that it has been caused by a leak from a Government laboratory that was researching the virus !

It is so sickening that this outbreak has occurred. The whole farming community is really facing a tough time now.

Hi guys... We just booked out summer holiday - for October!!

http://www.lambriggancourt.com/index.html (external link)

Woot. Good news Pete :D

I didn't even know about that place - it looks fantastic!

Let us know your dates and if you can put up with my kids for a short time ;) I'll take some time off work and we'll arrange a day shooting if you fancy it.

Looks good Pete, fingers crossed for some decent weather for you.

(are you sure you will not be a little to close to that reprobate that sometimes hangs out in this forum :-) )

Hey! I resemble that remark!

7 days. We're staying in bedroom one. Apparently, there's nice grounds, with tame owls, apacas, cranes, and wallabies.

Also, the Eden Project is close by (bio-domes with microclimates inside). Not to mention the Cornwall coastline - very rough and rugged.

Also, the open air Minack Theatre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minack_Theatre (external link)

All great. There's plenty of other places around too. Trevarno Gardens, Lost Gardens of Heligan, plenty of NT houses. What sort of things do you want to see (if you ever venture out from that great place!)

Will finish catching up later.
