yeah, i thought of that.....I thought there was a specific way to do it, either in photoshop or some other method

YOu can buy rolls of white background ( a heavy paper product)Make sure it extends on the floor long enough so that your model doesn't stand so close to the "wall" and cast shadows. Play with your lights. When I did this kind of stuff I had good lighting gear- stands, umbrellas, reflectors, soft boxes. . . I've never done it with just onboard flash and it has been too many years to count or recount- getting old means forgetting.

athena should be able to help here.

It can be done in Photoshop too...simply shoot the model against any plain background...single color...and make sure you don't have shadows...hit the magic lasso...it should select the whole background...add a new color layer of the desired color...and away you go.
