Yes...for most purposes you are better off sticking to sRGB...different gamuts like Adobe1996 have more color space...but it really only comes into play when printing and the printer has to be profiled to use it...if you post a picture processed in Adobe1996 to a website, it will look very washed out in most cases.

Just amazes me how much he grows and changes. I was reading to him last night, and he seemed to be watching the book and would reach out just a bit as I turned pages.

People sometimes use the wider gamut while post processing as well. Theoretically, it lets you have finer graduations of tonality, in the same way that keeping in 16-bit for as long as you can give you the advantage when processing RAW files (v. JPG).

I know that Lonnie processes (or at least used to) in the larger gamut, then used a PS action to save it down to sRGB jpg.

Yep. I set ACR to convert RAW files using ProPhoto RGB. I started doing that on a recommendation I read in a book. I'm not sure which book now, though. Probably one of Bruce Frazier's. Then, my last few steps in post before saving would be: Convert to sRGB, sharpen, and add watermark.

I have this nagging feeling that I changed ACR's default to sRGB a while back, though. I'm not sure why I'm thinking that. I still hit F10 out of habit near the end of post processing. That's the function key I assigned to the action that converts to sRGB...

The commute ain't bad at all. I can cover the entire 50+ miles in about 40 minutes...

So far I've listened to Jimmy Buffett's book "A Salty Piece of Land", Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and am about halfway through "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer".

There are definite advantages to using other gamuts...but for the average user...they are better off sticking to sRGB until they have done some serious studying up on the subject. A lot of people forget to do that final conversion and then are perplexed as to why their images look so weird when displayed on a web page.

Woo-hoo Deb!! There is about a thousand dollar difference in those camera bodies. I hear the 40 with the 28-135 IS lens is a good deal as you are paying only about 200 bux or so for that lens which retails for more.

Careful for scammers Deb, 800 for the 40 D is definitely a scam.
