Can everyone show us what view you wake up to in the morning? To me - a house is about the view... I don't care too much about what it looks like inside, that I can change...

All my outdoor photos of home have snow in them, lol.

I was talking to my daughter not long ago and we were talking about spanking. She works in a daycare and often the kids are out of control...and they don't spank (obviously) and have to be very creative about discipline...then we got to talking about how the kids were raised and she said the biggest thing she hated was that we'd send them to their room (on those times that they actually required a spanking) to wait until we weren't angry (the big rule in the house was to never spank when we were angry...then the spanking wasn't a "response" to their behavior but rather the result of....therefore they couldn't manipulate us by their behavior). She said she always knew she deserved a spanking (when she was going to get one) but hated waiting until we were calm enough to give it to her. Funny things that kids remember from their past......both ours have said that back then they'd rather have had a spanking than one of Dan's LONG lectures :lol:

Interesting. I try not to spank because its not socially acceptable these days. But I do wonder sometimes if I'm making a mistake. My kid is just so stubborn. It takes so much time disciplining her with time outs and lost privileges, and it doesn't seem to help with things like backtalk and insolence. She can't seem to develop the self-control to shut herself up. I do the lecture thing sometimes, but she keeps interrupting and arguing every point. It is SO hard to get her to just STFU.

I send him to his room and use time outs, I try really hard not to hit in general since he has had issues in the past at pre-k with hitting. Trying to model good behavior y'know...when all I want to do is hang him out the window by his ankles!

Loosing things has recently been working like no time on the computer or TV.

have you tried that on your kids?.....my mom used spoons:

used wooden ones on all 3 of her boys, but they quickly broke over our bottoms. then she started usuing plastic spoons which hurt even worse and still broke........:evil:Until she finally used metal spatulas:evil:

I threaten... my son actually behaves quite well, it's probably because I am a mean mom... because we travel so much (and because my husband is Austrian) there is certain behavior that is expected... now all it takes is a look, "THE LOOK"...all the kids know that when they come over to my house, they play by my rules... I've told him not to worry though, I will pay for his pyschiatrist when he is 20... that always makes him giggle...

Jo, what is that building? It's beautiful.

It is the backside of the Hofburg, the winter palace of the former Emperor. there is a garden below called the Burg Garten...

Got to go take the boys to dinner... Schnitzel time... back later

Finally getting the hang of this...

We only spanked as a last resort. Mostly, we made them write papers pertaining to their behavior. 1 page...and they had to write an honest paper about what they did, why it was wrong and what would be the appropriate action instead. IF they wrote a smart alecky paper, they ended up writing another one. And they HAD to do the paper before they could play. By the time they were in high school, they were SO creative with their papers....I wish we'd kept them. It really was an effective means of discipline. Because they really had to think about their actions. And when they were little it was one page, front side only and as they got older it was front and back. For us, it was better than a "time out" because they both had great imaginations and so time outs with no toys did absolutely no good whatsoever.

It is cool!!

I want to do some shooting while I am off, will be driving past you on Tuesday on my way to the bear mountain bridge then further upstate to a water park in Fishkill. My aunt lives nearby so after we tire out the kiddies we'll meet her for dinner. She is in her 80's and just SO much fun.

On the way up I want to take some shots of bannerman castle (external link), and maybe a farm or two.

Sounds like Fun Crissa ..don't forget to wav ...

I have to say though that our son was stubborn and often said, when told he'd have to write a paper "I don't care! It was worth it"...which garned him an additional paper. I remember once, only once that he spent the day writing papers because he would mouth off IN the paper...that was a long day for us both. But he never did it again....

I have a similar time out problem. She just seem to think up arguments while she's sitting there, lol. She is not allowed much TV or computer time anyway, so losing them doesn't seem to affect her that much because she knows how to deal with not having them. I might try the writing thing. I can see her sitting at the table yelling out "how do you spell insubordination and delinquent??"

I'm not a parent but the thing I have noticed with my niece and nephew is that my sister is INCONSISTENT with her discipline. However, my parents, the grandparents are consistent. The kids are SO much more behaved when their parents are not around and they're with the G's. I think consistancy with discipline, either mental or physical, is what will make the biggest difference.

The thing my dad did was to always make me give him a hug after he'd spank me. Which is funny because once I got married I always want to give the wife a hug after we've argued.
