How can a country BAN you from spanking your own children. I thought that kind of thing only happened in Fiction...

By making it illegal. I think it has an age stipulation - like spanking any child under X age is against the law. I don't remember what X equals though. I never was good with algebra. ;)

Yes, Crissa and I met about a year and a half ago. We took our kids to Walt Disney World together. I've known her online for about 12 or 14 years now, I think. She's awesome, eh?

LOL at the algebra. I agree with not spanking the little ones, they don't have the mental development to control their behavior or understand punishment. Indiana loses one kid a day, on average, to child abuse and neglect. Its scary.

Those kind of statistics make me physically ill.

Punishment is a very, very effective behavior modification technique, but ONLY if it is done properly. One of the biggest things people get wrong is timing. Punishment has to be immediate to work well. None of that "wait till your father gets home" bull. That's just psychological abuse.

Whew, ok. I'm off my psychologists soapbox now. :o

Sorry to make ya ill. I agree with the timing thing. We've done time outs in the store, the parking lot, the zoo, nearly everywhere, lol. Now she almost never misbehaves when we're out. She saves it all for the privacy of home, and then she really lets loose sometimes!

Eli easily misinterprets social cues, we are working hard on it. Part of it is his vivid imagination, other parts are a simple social immaturity and poor impulse control. Anoter child will chase him in a game and he will escalate to running away screaming that they are going to hurt him. It can be painfully frustrating, but he has grown a lot in the past year. Since I am tuned into it things can be better when I am around, but in school and camp it can be difficult if the folks around him don't realize what is going on.

Matthew had similar issues with somewhat different reactions. The year of grade 2 is socially amazing though. When I think about how he was a year ago - it's like a different child. They grow up SO much in grade 2. :)

Plus he has a boy brain. One of the most interesting things about having our kids together was seeing how much they were different because of different gender, yet so much alike because almost the same age. Allie is almost TOO tuned into social cues. She'll even reject a stuffed animal or doll if she thinks the facial expression isn't just right.

I'm hoping for a lot of growth in maturity for Allie in first grade, lol.

That's an encouraging thought, thanks!:)

Does no one have a photo of unfairness for TPBM?
