i'd use no filter before i used a cheap filter....which that hoya filter kits sounds like.

the only reason to use a filter for your purpose is protection and if you are using a protective filter make sure it's multi-coated UV made by one top companies.

I have stopped using filters on my lenes, other than a CP when needed, but if you look at one of the posts on this forum where a guy that rents out lenses opened a few of his 17-55's to clear the dust out, you will see that a filter will help prevent dust ingress.

I'll still go without filters, and I've used my lens in very dusty conditions without dust ingress.

Edit : I'm back with the link https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=348343

B&W, Heliopan, Rodenstock. You won't find any significant difference in the better filters from those companies. I am sure there are other good manufacturers, but those are the ones I happen to have.

As has been stated in countless filter threads...

Hoya makes multiple lines of filters, with increasing quality and price

there are 'Blue box' and 'Green box' at the bottom of the Hoya line
there are HMC (Hoya MultiCoated) which are respectable
there are SHMC (Hoya Super Multicoated) which are premium at the optical quality level of B+W and Helioplan
there are Hoya Digital, which are considered 'digital marketing hype' without proven optical advantage (but yet higher price!) over the SHMC

'Hoya kit' sounds like the cheapo filter (green or blue box)... Pass on that!!!
