Common Blue Butterfly

Taken at lunchtime today, a Common Blue Butterfly on a flower of the Common Knapweed. In the second shot the probiscis is extended obtaining fluids from the flower head

Common blue is such a derogatory name for such an attractive little butterfly. This is a female. Knapweed is a great nectaring plant for meadow butterfies, and if they're a bit skittish to sudden approach you can often just hang around a few of these flowers and let the butterflies come to you. Marbled whites love them, although I don't recall blues using them before. Like Alby I think shot 1 is the better pic. Very nice.
