If canon L lens are joining the red side, i guess sigma is the gold side? which one is the force then?

So after my poor experience with a refurbished Canon 35 1.4L (it was broke out of the box), i realized something. For the short time that i had it, shooting at < F2 is *hard* DOF is so shallow that you really need to nail composition. Well this made me think that $1200 tied up in a lens of questionable usefulness (for me of course) was not the best use of money, but i still wanted something around 30-35 on my crop (to get to that 50FL i like) and i wanted it to be fast. so of course that sigma 30 F1.4 was the obvious choice.

The only thing keeping me back were all the poor reports. I've only had it for a day, and it's raining so i can't go out and take real shots, but i've taken a few focus test shots. I'm normally not a pixel peeper, but they look good to me, any comments would be greatly appreciated of course.

i've posted them in my flickr pool instead of embedding them. here they are, sorry i would've done 100% crops, but i never know what people mean when they say that :)

Looks good alright, I have one too and when on a tripod its great but start moving it around or on AI Servo and its looks crap, I have a lot of Sigma gear and I have never had a problem with any of them till this one. I would concede it could be operator error with such a small DOF but my nifty fifty hasnt had a problem like this. Best of luck with the new lens

borderfox, thanks for the heads up, i will try to test those situations as best i can, though i don't really see myself using this lens in AI Servo or for action shooting much...

The negative reports on the Sigma made me hesitant as well but once I got it I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's my most used indoors. Enjoy!

Yeah she's a beaut. I've snatched some good pics of my boy jumping and running with the 1D and the 30mm 1.4, she does good in AI Servo.

Congrats on the purchase, it'll do ya well!
