I recently got this bag and you can configure the two bodies with the lenses on without problems. As long as you have the hood on(reversed position) the 70-200 as in the above pics, you shouldn't have any issues. To answer your question to number 1, I'm not so sure. I assume you can tho.

Thank you for your answer.

You can see the little ring/link on this image on the shoulder strap http://ecx.images-amazon.com …I/51JkPycC-GL._SS400_.jpg (external link)

Thank you. Such a shame about the little rings and links lacking on this superb backpack. Initially I was going for the Tamrac Exp. 8x and then read and read and I started to lean towards the vertex 300 and now I am back to the Exp. 8x. :-D

Has anybody had trouble bringing this guy on a plane as carry on?

I've read a few other posts in another thread where people had no trouble bringing them on a plane. I believe it fits most carry-on restrictions except for very small planes.

3 Years since this thread started but I wanted to thank the thread originator PWM2 for taking the time.

I was looking for a cabin luggage friendly back pack for getting all my gear from the UK to middle Africa without going in the hold and as many who have read this thread looking for similar flight friendly reasons will understand this review is top dollar.

One thing I wanted to comment on was the laptop area being on the outside of all the camera equipment versus being inside and directly behind your spine. Some have mentioned that having the laptop nearer your spine is better for weight distribution even though those who have used this backpack say its not an issue, however:

1: Anyone who understands laptops will know that their durability lays in how strong the manufacturer produces the chassis. Considering your spine will flex with every step is it a good idea to have your laptop chassis strapped closely to it?

2: I don't know about anyone else but my camera body and each lens individually are worth more as single items than the laptop alone, even @ $1100. So, what could be better than having my body protecting any accidents to the contents from the front and the cheapest item I'm carrying protecting the contents from the back? How much would people pay for something as large as an 18 inch laptop as an impact protector for their camera gear?

Lastly there are insurance issues. If this bag takes an impact from behind with my laptop inserted I'd be making one insurance claim for a laptop. If the laptop wasn't there as a protective shell I might be looking at multiple claims and headaches in the process.

As for weight is it really an issue? When immersed in our hobby/profession do we ever ask ourselves "better change to a smaller lens because my arms are aching"?

Great review and had me order one myself.

Thank you.

All I can say is....

This is a big bag which has been noted above.

When filled, it will have problems fitting in the airline boxes designed to measure carry-on baggage.

When filled, it takes two men and a boy to carry it...

I own this bag and love it. If you're complaining about weight, it's time to hit the gym my friend. :);)

i have the vertex 200aw myself, and it does get heavy (obviously not as heavy as a fully loaded 300), but the strap/suspension system is excellent and i can walk around all day fully loaded...i did fly on some smaller regional jets recently and my 200 was gate checked on nearly all those flights...on the sole flight they let me carry on it did fit in the overhead (crj 700) but it took some work...

i also have a fastpack 250, which puts the laptop right against your back, and its much less comfortable...after a short while it feels like you've got a board strapped to your back...and that's probably not very good for having the screen press down on the keyboard either, assuming you don't have a protective pad between...

I have this bag, I seldom use it because 1) it's built like a brick s***house and 2) my Lowepro Pro Runner 450AW can do everything it does (and more) except carry 19" laptops, so unless I need my HP laptop with me, the Vertex tends to stay home and the Pro Runner 450 goes.

If you don't own one and need one that can handle mud, flood, s*** and blood, this will do it for ya!
