Another mushroom macro

I've shown some mushroom macro's before here, but here is another one I shot last weekend. I did quite some PS'ing (crop, levels, sharpen, clone out some ugly details, etc.) so it is heavily manipulated. But to me that's part of the fun. (I resisted the temptation to make it blueish and give it an underwater look )
So what do you think? Do you like it? What could I improve?

I agree with JZ it I wasn't told what it was I might guess a geological formation of some strange type.
