Well I gota agree with the others on this one but like they say what you don't try you'll never know, I think the trouble is Brian we're all so used to your amazing quality & consistency it comes as a bit of a shock to the system

No prob with the rework rw2 - that does look like my more normal shots but I was purposely trying to take a not normal shot .
Think it goes down to experience as a failed experiment

I realise you were going for a dark underexposed shot, I think it would have been better if the background was a single colour such as green and there was slightly more colour in the hoverfly still dark but a little bit more of the golden yellow colour
Keep doing new stuff Brian to inspire us all

I think it's a fantastic shot. Specifically I like the backlight around the head which accentuates a lot of nice details. But I do agree that slightly more fill light wouldn't have hurt. But not so much as to ruin the contrast and silhouette of the head.

Unusual but very effective composition.
