50 f/1.8 I vs. 50 f/1.8 II

Which one is considered the "nifty fifty" or are is it both? I have read that both are. What is the difference between the two and which one is better.

The Mk I version has been discontinued, as the Mk II is its replacement, and has a much better build than the Mk II version. The Mk I has a metal bayonet mount, a focusing scale and a proper focusing ring, and seems to be made of sturdier materials all round. They do share the same optics, though.

Although the Mk I is discontinued, it still sells at a premium, used, over a new 50 Mk II.

Kind regards, Wim

MKI has been long discontinued, as mentioned above. So I'd say the current design is the nifty thrifty.
BTW canogacamera sells it for $69.99
