I saw a 1D mkIII on Amazon, site said new in box, USA version, warranty, return policy ,ect. The weird part was it is only $1650.00. What do you think? Is Amazon like E bay, buyer beware, or do they stand behind what they sell. I have only used them a couple of times and have been impressed with thier customer service.

So, Too good to be true, or am I just uniformed as to what that should cost?
Thanks for any help, I would love to have this camera but, but my Hinky meter is going off...

Oh BTW it was body only with all the other stuff, wires eyepiece, strap, box papers, discs, warranty card(blank), ect.

A mistake , I don'tknow. I emailed the seller and he says he will sell at that price and sent me pics of the camera. He said that he will give two days for inspection for return. He also said that payment must go through Amazon, I don't see the camera listed on Amazon any longer, but the seller in emails, said that Amazon will contact me for payment.

Seems more like a scam than a mistake, because I know Amazon states clearly that they will never contact customers by email the get credit card or payment information.

So I am just waiting now for someone to email for payment and will follow that to see what is up.

All I can say here is, if they are willing to sell a $4500 item for $1600, ITS A SCAM.

I'll make you a better offer, send me $800 and I will not send you a Canon Mark III either and you'll save an extra $800.

I'd pass, its going to be a hassle....

As i stated i do not think it is legit, but I could find some fun in catching a scammer.
I will play along and see what develops, I have not nor will I release any payment information, unless that thing showed up at my door and was inspected by a professional tech. I am willing to bet that does not happen....

You should be a little more certain or assertive in that comment. You know it is not legit. There is no doubt either it is not a Mark III (maybe a Mark II), or it is a really bad scam.

Update...
I recieved a very official looking e mail from "Amazon" requeting payment sent directly to the seller... Well we all know what that means. Then I checked my acct. with Amazon, no order history regarding this transaction other than my original e mail to the the seller from the Amazons site.

Boy o Boy these scams get better and better each day. None of the usual bad grammer, out of Lagos, rich oil familys, ect. Gettig on Amazon without thier knowledge alone, seems like quite a feat to me, but what do I know, just turning on a computer is sometimes challenging for me...

Hope this helps someone in the future...

I actually bought one of these 1DMIII's through Amazon for $1650. I've dealt w/ Amazon before, and their A to Z policy for buying from third parties is great, so I wasn't to nervous. I never thought I'd get the camera, but I did think I would get a discount off on future Amazon stuff due to my inconvenience. It turns out it wasn't much of an inconvenience at all, as before payment was ever sent to the seller Amazon had sent me an email apologizing for my inconvenience, but the camera was not available. Here is the email:

"We're sorry, we're unable to complete your order from an Amazon Marketplace seller XXXXXXXX@gmail.com (external link). We have canceled this transaction and you have not been charged for the order."

My mom once sent me a link from some woman that goes and scams the scammers, then gives all their info to the police. She strings them along as long as she can, and gets them to send as many fake money orders, tells them funds have been wired, etc as she can, then tells them it has been turned over to the police. Last I looked, she had made the scammers (mostly the Nigerian scams) spend around $1400 (or maybe $14,000 - I can't remember) in postage and such. Good fun!
