Return PC Laptop. Get a Mac. All applications will keep running and so will updates to the OS. Live tension free.

This is not true. The OS8/9 apps will not run on Intel-based Macs - not even in "Classic" mode. The only work-around is to install SheepShaver and an Old World Mac ROM, and even then there are no guarantees that your I/O ports will work.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I hear all these doomsday scenarios... but it's funny...

Vista is rock solid and fine. Yes you have to upgrade some software at the same time... it's just like building a computer. No different. When you upgrade the motherboard often you have to upgrade the processesor... this is the nature of the personal computer.

Dell offers all their PC's with the option of Vista and XP still. So i'm not sure where you were looking Don, but it's really not hard to find.

No offense, but it sounds like you didn't do your research and paid a price for it. Simple as that.

To recap;
1. PC's are certainly still offered with XP.
2. Older versions of applications are obviously questionable with any latest and greatest OS.
3. Not doing your research can end up costing you more over time.
4. Vista is a perfectly fine Operating System. I've been using it since it was MSDN and i haven't had a single issue with it. I had a really old sound card that i had to upgrade, and that was it. I chalk it up to having to stay with current technology. If you don't want that, get a PC from Dell with XP still on it.

I take it back... after a closer look sure enough, Dell recently pulled XP altogether. I stand corrected.

However;

Buy that and you can use elements 4.0 forever.

I'm not sure how now that I read this, but I have PSE 4 & Vista . It works fine for me - when I open it it says there is a compatibly problem - but I just click run it anyway - and then there are no problems, so I'm not sure what the compatibility problem is, but it doesn't really effect anything.
I have had PSE 4 for several years, so I'm ready to upgrade too, but since it works at least I'm not rushed. I have had Vista since Jan. and still haven't found any problems.
Good luck and at least you'll enjoy CS3! (blessing in disguise)

That was an architecture change. That's like saying that XBOX games will work on PS3. That was obvious when the change happened. But you can still get the latest OS for your Power PC macs.

Thanks again all. I need to update.
Yes Juni G, I have found that although there is a note that PSE 4 has compatibility problems, the program seems to run fine.

The latest problem has been that I purchased a new hp Photosmart D7160 printer, and after spending more than two hours on the phone with HP, the printer has compatibility problems with Vista. The printer came with a CD install for Vista, but it will not function correctly from the desktop. We found that, guess what, it will print correctly from the PSE 4.

It has not been fun owning Vista!
