I've never even started up Bridge, ever. Some day I'll be brave and click that icon but until then I'd just thought I'd ask you guys; since I'm using Lightroom is there any need at all for Bridge? I use Irfanview as a "jpg viewer" btw.

to answer your question, no, since getting LR I haven't once opened up bridge. there really isn't any reason to do so unless you want to look at your images before you import them into your LR library.

The reason I ask is because I remember Chris Orwig mention in his Lynda.com Lightroom tutorial that LR doesn't replace neither PS (which I assumed was correct) nor Bridge (which I thought was odd, from my understanding of the program) but that they all complement eachother. He even drew some artsy triangle visually showing the connection, if I remember correctly.

I like the guy a lot but he goes over board at times and some of the stuff he says I take with a pitch of salt, hehehe.

*edit*
Hey, I just looked it up and I remembered correctly. I then actually found the clip on their website for free;

The clip is called Photographic workflow puzzle in Chapter 1. As you can see he later kind of contradicts himself regarding Bridge...

I experimented with LR and Bridge for perhaps 3 months. I hardly use LR these days, only for some batch processing. I'm using Bridge all the time for browsing, keyworking, and as a 'bridge' into Photoshop for editing. Bridge/Photoshop seems to work a lot faster for me, but my 'output' is low. Perhaps 1 > 2 photos per week (i.e. I am a snapshot hobbyist, not a pro/wedding photographer)

Bridge always has its place on my desktop - not least for folders containing PDF files, Illustrator and InDesign documents. I would miss it was it not part of the Creative Suite (in my case, Creative Suite 3 Design Premium).

However, the only times I use Bridge for photos is if I want to view the contents of a disc or card quickly without importing the pictures to Lightroom, or if I want to open a file as a Camera Raw Smart Object in Photoshop CS3 (which even Lightroom 1.1 can't do, unfortunately). My main photographic workflow is all in Lightroom.

No, I haven't used Bridge since getting LR except to set it up for CS3 for when/if I ever need it.

I use Bridge always to browse my photos and open them into Photoshop. I use LR to do my keywording and keeping track of the photos. If I have to edit an image I tend to do so using adjustment layers so photoshop is still an integral part of my workflow. LR is great addition to my workflow but it doesn't replace the other components.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
