I took this photo a while ago on a motorway heading out of Sofia, Bulgaria. It has always confused me as to what is it? Some sort of street art, or an odd poster advertising something?? I really cannot determine what it is... So here is the picture (and a crop), and any guesses welcome :)

Weird... good job at recording this... this... whatever it is. At first it looked like a little girl sitting with her arms around her knees. But then that weird face. Weird.

I doubt I'll ever find out unless there are some local Bulgarians here that can explain...

Okay, I figured it out. The picture used to be a part of the billboard ad. The text reads... "Billboard space for sale.. call this GSM #..."

yep, can you imagine the 'beautiful' models face when the stylist asks her to wear what looks like a couple of RAMS skulls on her head, and some massive (and most likely loud) bells around her waist.

...and the photographer shouting "give me a sexy pose for this one! yeah baby yeah"

hmm.......

actually I like the ambiguity of the image so much that I may just phone that number and ask if I can buy it to cover my living room wall

My guess is that it is someone participating in Koukers’ day - a kolezar or maybe a bride...

you know, that must have been more than a guess. I think you got it spot on there! I just read a bit about this:

...seems to occur in Bulgaria. How on earth did you know of such festivals??

Wish I could say because I was there - but I saw it in a documentary on either PBS, Discovery, or History International. Tried to google up a decent link to make sure but didn't find much. Your link is much better!

well, now you know the place (Pernik and Dupnitsa, Bulgaria), and the time of year (11 January) you can also be there ;) it's only a plane ticket away.

There is 'excellent' skiing and snowboarding in that region also, so much, that I'll probably be there again this winter...

Seriously 'big thanks' for finding out the origin of this 'ambiguous' image...
