Ok, going out of my mind now! out of these 2 options which would you go for?

Option 1. 1D mk III - between £2600 - £3000

Option 2. 1D mkIIn + 300mm f/4 + 580ex - i could get this for probably a little less than the price of a mkIII.

In my heart i really want a mkIII :D but my wallet says mkIIn
I'm coming from a 30d, which of the cameras do you think would be the easiest for a 30d user to get to grips with? which option would you take?

Either way you're going to have to get a new wide angle lens.. that EF-S won't work :p I'd go 1DIII personally, the upgrades seem worth it to me :)

I'd go option 2. Those 3 items will get you a lot further than just a Mark III would. IMHO the Mark III is still overpriced when you consider the value you can get out of a brand new Mark IIN for ~25% less....or even moreso if you start looking at secondhand Mark II/Ns.

They'll both have equal yet different learning curves from the 30D. Again, IMHO.

ALTHOUGH...you do already have a 1.4x Tcon you can slap on your 70-200. The 300 f/4 becomes a bit redundant. A bit better IQ due to being native reach, but no aperture or IS gain. You really could use a flash though.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I'm with CDI. Go for the MK2n especially from a value per dollar spent standpoint.

I picked up a used one in absolutely pristine condition to be the leader to my 30D. The only real frustration is that the controls are set up completely different from the 30D. The MK3 has a control layout like the 30D & 5D.

I can tell you that recently I got the chance to play with the MK3 and a 70-200 2.8 IS and it feels at least half as heavy as the MK2n and 70-200.

Also, I would suggest dumping the 17-55 and picking up the 24-70. You can use the 24-70 on both, but the 17-55 on the 30D only.

Heres a thought...in terms of US$

OPTION 1
-- Use the TC with your 70-200 ------- + $000
-- Sell 17-55 --------------- +$800
-- Buy used low click MKIIn ------------- - $2500
-- Buy 24-70 --------------- - $1150
-- Buy 16-35 II --------------- - $1500
-- Buy 15 fisheye (just for fun) --------- - $580
...............total cost = $4930
Focal length covered = 15 to 280 (24 to 448 on 30D & 19.5 to 364 on MKIIn) if my math is correct.

OPTION 2
-- Buy MKIII --------------- - $4500 to $5000

IMHO - looks like you have the choice of one HELL OF A KICK ASS KIT, vs. 1 new body.

Choice would be easy for me :D
