Many roads and many people affected yesterday after nearly 24hrs of rainfall. Even areas not known for flooding were underwater ( some still are )

Yep it's been quite a shock.

15 minute journeys have been taking 4 hours.

The flood waters are now receding but we have just heard that one of the local pumping stations is going to be turned off ( I don't know if this is true ). The police have been called to the local supermarket to stop people fighting over bottled water. :(

I left Sheffield at 7a.m. on Friday morning for a job interview in Bournemouth. I drove down in some of the worst conditions I have ever driven in, especially bad around Northampton and Oxford. After the interview I decided against trying to get back home and instead set off towards my sisters house in Herefordshire. I took me over 8 hours. I arrived at midnight. A very long day.
Driving back to Sheffield today I went past Ross & Hay which where both still heavily flooded.
I saw the effects of these floods first hand a recently when the industrial estate I worked in flooded (twice). My heart goes out to all those effected

Seems terrible still. Any updates? In the news, they are saying these floods are worse than the ones in 1947.

Good luck

Yep, same here, 19 hours from Kendal to Newport, stuck on the M5 for most of it, I consider myself lucky to have been stuck in the car with a guy and girl from work who I will now consider lifelong friends, also very lucky that I also set out on a journey over prepared.
Many stories over the local radio of people with young families stuck on the motorway, coaches full of kids and elderly people on the radio it was said that the situation on the motorway was 'Critical to life' for some and hope no-one lost their lives.

My thoughts go out to those suffering the effects of the flooding and consider my experience a mild inconveinience in comparison.

Best wishes from North of the Border

We all hope things improve soon.

I have relatives in the Forest of Dean and friends in Gloucester but not been able to get in touch yet.

Phil

As this is a photography forum I'll try not to turn this into a general discussion board but if anyone wants to see how bad it is go to www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire (external link) and take a look at some of the galleries.

Thankfully I am one of the few that has dry feet but the tap water is running out - the pumping station was switched off on Sunday. Electricity is the next concern.

Thanks for the good wishes, my heart goes out to those in the thick of it.
